Siddhatek Siddhivinayak Temple
The second temple in the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage circuit is the Siddhivinayak Temple at Siddhatek. Situated on the banks of the sacred Bhima River in Karjat taluka of Ahmednagar district, this is the only Ashtavinayak temple where the Ganesha idol has a right-turned trunk, known as 'Dakshinabhimukhi' trunk. This unique feature gives this temple an extraordinary spiritual significance among all Ganesha temples in Maharashtra.
History and Mythology
The history of Siddhatek is deeply rooted in ancient mythology. According to the Puranas, Lord Vishnu desired to obtain divine powers to slay two demons named Madhu and Kaitabha who were terrorizing the universe. Vishnu performed intense penance and worship of Lord Ganesha at this very location. Pleased with Vishnu's devotion, Ganesha granted him Siddhi (divine power). Armed with this divine energy, Vishnu successfully defeated and killed the demons Madhu and Kaitabha. Since Vishnu attained Siddhi here, the Ganesha deity came to be known as Siddhivinayak (the lord who grants Siddhi), and the hillock received the name Siddhatek.
Another legend states that Lord Brahma worshipped Ganesha at this location before creating the universe and was granted the Siddhi of creation. This adds another layer of spiritual importance to this ancient pilgrimage site.
Temple Architecture
The Siddhivinayak Temple is situated atop a small hill overlooking the Bhima River. The current structure dates back to the Peshwa period. It is believed that Ahilyabai Holkar commissioned the renovation of this temple. The sanctum sanctorum is compact, and the idol is considered Swayambhu (self-manifested). The idol stands approximately three feet tall and two and a half feet wide. The trunk of the idol turns to the right, making this an exceptionally powerful and awakened deity. Worship of a right-trunked Ganesha is believed to require strict adherence to ritual protocols and unwavering devotion.
The Special Significance of the Right Trunk
In Ganesha iconography, the direction of the trunk carries deep spiritual meaning. A left-trunked Ganesha is considered gentle and easily pleased, while a right-trunked Ganesha is regarded as immensely powerful and highly awakened. The Siddhivinayak at Siddhatek is the only right-trunked Ganesha among all eight Ashtavinayak temples, which gives this shrine an unparalleled significance. Devotees firmly believe that sincere prayers offered here are always answered and all wishes are fulfilled by the grace of Siddhivinayak.
Festivals and Celebrations
Ganesh Chaturthi is the most significant festival celebrated at Siddhatek. During the month of Bhadrapada, the entire area reverberates with devotional fervor. Maghi Ganesh Jayanti, Angarki Chaturthi, and Vinayaki Chaturthi are marked with special pujas and celebrations. On Kartik Pournima, a beautiful lamp festival (Deepotsav) is organized. Large numbers of devotees visit throughout the year to fulfill their vows and express gratitude for wishes granted.
Darshan Timings
The temple opens at 5:00 AM and closes at 9:30 PM. The daily schedule includes: Kakad Aarti at 5:15 AM, Mahanaivedhya Puja at 12:00 noon, Sayam Aarti at 7:30 PM, and Shej Aarti at 9:00 PM. Abhishek Puja is available from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Devotees seeking special rituals should contact the temple administration in advance.

Siddhatek is approximately 175 kilometers from Pune and about 115 kilometers from Ahmednagar. Karjat (Ahmednagar) is the nearest town. Visitors can reach Siddhatek by taxi or bus from Pune or Ahmednagar airports. Daund Railway Station is the nearest major railway station, from where local transport is available to Siddhatek. Shrigonda Railway Station also provides connectivity. The roads connecting Siddhatek are reasonably well maintained, though some stretches may be rough during monsoon season.

Best Time to Visit
November to February is the best period to visit Siddhatek as the weather is cool and pleasant. During the monsoon, the Bhima River may flood and roads can become difficult to navigate. Summer temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius, making travel uncomfortable. Visiting during Ganesh Chaturthi provides a festive atmosphere but expect very large crowds.
