Meaning
Rudrashtakam is an eight-verse hymn composed by Goswami Tulsidas in praise of Lord Shiva. It salutes Shiva as the embodiment of liberation (Nirvana), all-pervading, the essence of Brahman and Vedas, attributeless, and beyond alternatives. The stotra beautifully describes Shiva's majestic form - white as the snowy mountain, with Ganga flowing from his head, crescent moon on his forehead, serpent around his neck, and blue throat. In the final verse, Tulsidas humbly says - 'I know not yoga, nor chanting, nor worship, but I bow to you always, O Shambhu.'
