Meaning
Lingashtakam is an eight-verse hymn glorifying the Shiva Linga. Each verse describes different attributes of the Shiva Linga - worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and the gods; destroyer of sorrows born from birth; the one who burned Kama; enhancer of intellect; adorned with gold and gems; anointed with kumkum and sandalwood; radiant as crores of suns; destroyer of all poverty; and the supreme transcendent soul. Each verse concludes with the refrain 'Tat Pranamaami Sadashiva Lingam' (I bow to that Sadashiva Linga).
Benefits
Reciting Lingashtakam in the presence of Shiva grants Shivaloka (the abode of Shiva). It destroys the eight types of poverty. It increases intellect and destroys accumulated sins. Recitation on Mondays, during the month of Shravan, and on Mahashivaratri is especially fruitful.
