Meaning
Durga Suktam consists of mantras from the Mahanarayanopanishad and the Rigveda. It requests Agni (Jatavedas) to carry us across all difficult obstacles. The mantra 'Taam agnivarnam tapasa jvalantim' describes surrendering to Goddess Durga who is fire-colored, blazing with austerity, and the bestower of fruits of actions. Like a boat crossing a river, Agni (Durga) carries one across all difficult obstacles. It concludes with the Durga Gayatri mantra - 'Katyayanaya Vidmahe Kanyakumari Dheemahi, Tanno Durgih Prachodayat'.
