Meaning
Aditya Hridayam is a stotra from the Yuddha Kanda of Valmiki's Ramayana. When Lord Rama was exhausted and anxious during the battle with Ravana, Sage Agastya revealed this secret, eternal hymn. It describes the Sun God by many names - Aditya, Savita, Surya, Bhaskara, Martanda, Divakara, etc. The Sun is described as the embodiment of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. After chanting this stotra three times, Rama defeated Ravana.
Benefits
Aditya Hridayam destroys all enemies, bestows victory, is the most auspicious of all auspicious things, destroys all sins, calms anxiety and sorrow, and increases longevity. One who chants it in calamity, fear, or difficulty never suffers. Sunday recitation is especially powerful. Chanting three times ensures certain victory.
