Meaning
Lord Shankar wears a garland of skulls across the universe, his throat is blue with poison, flames emerge from his three eyes. A crescent moon adorns his head from where the pure waters of the Ganga flow. He is fair as camphor, innocent, with wide eyes, with Parvati as his consort, adorned with flower garlands and sacred ash. When gods and demons churned the ocean, the deadly poison Halahala arose, which Shankar consumed, earning him the name Nilkantha (blue-throated one).
